Animal Registration Ordinance & Regulations
City registration tags are issued and (in addition to a current rabies vaccination tag) must be worn by the animal at all times. The fee is $5.00 and proof of a current rabies vaccination must be presented.

Registrations must be renewed annually. Forms for registration are available in the foyer at city hall by the Records window or available for download here .
Restrictions on Number of Pets
- The number of pets per household is limited to 4 dogs, 4 cats, and to a total number of 8 animals.
- Excessive animal permits are available for breeders, foster care homes and various other reasons.
Other Animals
- Permits are required for all other animals.
- Livestock must be registered, but there is no fee for this registration.
- Exotic pets, guinea pigs, pot bellied pigs, fowl, rabbits, pygmy goats, and ferrets are under certain restrictions. Contact animal control for more information on these animals.
Animals Not Allowed
- Species not normally considered domesticated including (but not limited to) venomous lizard, poisonous snake, boa, python, raccoon, skunk, fox, bear, lion, tiger, wolf, elephant, kangaroo, monkey, chimpanzee, antelope, deer or any other wild animal capable of or inclined to do serious bodily harm to human beings or other animals are strictly prohibited.
Any animal found at large within the city limits is subject to impoundment. Dogs must be contained inside a structure, within a fenced area or on a leash. Cats trespassing upon or damaging the property of others may be contained by the property owner and will also be impounded. Fees are charged for redemption and citations may be issued.
Sec. 14-82. - Animals at large.(a) Any person owning, possessing or keeping animals within the city, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, licensed or unlicensed, shall confine such animals within an adequate fence or enclosure, or within a house, garage or other building, or shall keep such animals confined by leash or chain affixed to the animals collar and under the control of a person, and adequate to prevent the animals from running at large.
(b) Retractable leashes must be locked at a distance of four feet or less when in the immediate proximity of a passerby either on foot or on a non-motorized vehicle.
